This Policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions and any program-specific notices, consent forms, releases, or rules that apply to a particular activity.

Important: The Platform is not directed to children under 13 for independent use. Children under 13 should not independently submit personal information through the Platform. See Section 11 for additional information about children and school-related participation.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with the Platform. We aim to collect only information reasonably related to the activity you choose.

Information you provide directly

Sensitive information

We do not ask you to submit highly sensitive information unless it is genuinely necessary for a specific program and an appropriate notice is provided. Please do not submit medical information, financial-account credentials, government identification numbers, passwords, a child’s precise location, or other highly sensitive information through general website forms or public submissions. A story, message, or community submission may reveal personal beliefs or other sensitive details if you voluntarily include them; consider carefully what you choose to share.

3. Technical Data, Cookies, and Similar Technologies

When you visit the Platform, our hosting, security, and technical service providers may automatically receive limited technical information such as Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser or device type, operating system, timestamps, referring pages, requested pages, and server or security logs. This information may be used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Platform.

The Platform or its service providers may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for site functionality, security, sessions, or preferences. If we later enable nonessential analytics, advertising, or similar tracking technologies that require additional notice or consent, we will update our practices and provide legally required choices where applicable.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings, although blocking some technologies may affect website functionality.

4. How We Use Information

We may use personal information to:

We do not use personal information in ways that are materially incompatible with the purposes described in this Policy without providing an appropriate notice or obtaining consent where required.

5. How We Share Information

We may share personal information only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including with:

Big Prayer Museum does not currently sell personal information for monetary consideration. If this practice changes, we will update this Policy and provide any notice or choice required by applicable law before the change applies.

6. Service Providers and Third Parties

The Platform may link to, embed, or depend on third-party services such as payment processors, hosting providers, email services, maps, social networks, video platforms, form providers, analytics or security services, and other technology providers. These third parties may process information under their own privacy policies and terms.

We seek to use service providers for legitimate operational purposes, but Big Prayer Museum does not control independent third-party websites, applications, or services. Review their privacy practices before providing information directly to them.

7. Donations, Payments, and Purchases

Donations, participation fees, sponsorships, purchases, or other payments may be processed through a third-party payment provider such as Stripe. When you proceed to the payment provider, that provider may collect payment-card information, billing details, device information, and other data needed to process the transaction, prevent fraud, and comply with law.

Big Prayer Museum generally receives transaction-related information such as the payer or donor name, contact information, amount, payment status, campaign or purpose, and receipt or transaction reference. We generally do not receive or store the full payment-card number.

The payment provider’s privacy policy governs information it collects directly from you.

8. Public Submissions, Stories, and Media

Some Platform features invite people to submit stories, messages, testimonials, photographs, recordings, project ideas, business information, event information, comments, or other User Content. Some submissions are intended for review only, while others may be intended for public display.

We will not treat a submission as confidential merely because it was sent through a general submission form. Do not submit confidential or highly sensitive information unless a specific program expressly asks for it and explains how it will be handled.

When a submission may be published, recognized, displayed, documented, or incorporated into museum, community, campaign, media, or historical materials, the permissions described in the Terms and any specific release or consent form apply. We may moderate submissions for safety, privacy, accuracy, accessibility, length, or relevance.

Event photography, video, interviews, or recordings may be subject to separate event notices, releases, or consent procedures where appropriate.

9. Business and Organization Information

Businesses and organizations may provide information for business cards, directories, spotlights, sponsorships, advertising, partnership participation, Tap Into the Map, Court of Life participation, or other public-facing features.

Information specifically provided for public business visibility—such as a business name, logo, description, website, business contact information, social links, services, and general location—may be displayed publicly as part of the requested participation. Do not provide personal home addresses, private telephone numbers, or other nonpublic information for a business listing unless you intend that information to be published.

10. Location Information and Safety

Most Platform forms request only a city, state, region, or country rather than precise location information. Map and location features may also use publicly available business, event, organizational, or Big Prayer Museum location information.

Please do not submit a private home address, real-time location, a child’s school or home location, or other precise location information through general participation forms unless the feature specifically requires it, explains why it is needed, and appropriate permission has been obtained.

We may reduce location precision, delay publication, or remove location information when reasonably necessary for privacy or safety.

11. Children and School-Related Participation

The Platform is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 for independent use. A child under 13 should not independently create an account, submit personal information, publish User Content, provide precise location information, make a donation, or independently complete participation forms.

When a program involves a child or student, participation should be directed or supervised by an authorized parent, legal guardian, school, educator, facilitator, or other responsible adult, and only the minimum information reasonably necessary for the activity should be provided.

Education-support forms may request a student or school name and adult contact information. Unless a program-specific process says otherwise, the person submitting information about a minor represents that they are authorized to provide it.

If Big Prayer Museum operates an online activity that is directed to children under 13 or knowingly collects personal information online directly from a child under 13, we will apply any additional notice, parental consent, access, security, retention, and deletion requirements that are legally required for that activity.

If we learn that we collected personal information online from a child under 13 without authorization required by law, we may delete it. A parent or legal guardian may contact us at hello@bigprayermuseum.org to request review, correction, or deletion of a child’s information.

12. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and for legitimate organizational needs such as program administration, safety, accounting, tax, legal compliance, dispute resolution, backups, fraud prevention, and historical or museum records where appropriate.

Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and activity. We may retain transaction, donation, sponsorship, legal, accounting, consent, and organizational records longer where required or reasonably necessary. Public or historical materials may also be preserved when the submission permissions and museum purpose support continued retention.

When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete, de-identify, or securely archive it, subject to applicable legal, backup, and recordkeeping requirements.

13. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. These measures may include access controls, reputable service providers, secure payment processing, backups, account protections, and security monitoring appropriate to the Platform’s stage of development.

No website, email system, transmission, or storage method is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your information or an account has been compromised, contact us promptly.

14. Your Privacy Choices and Requests

Depending on your relationship with Big Prayer Museum and applicable law, you may request that we:

Send privacy requests to hello@bigprayermuseum.org with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity or authority before fulfilling a request. We may retain information when required by law or reasonably necessary for legal, accounting, safety, fraud-prevention, archival, contractual, or organizational recordkeeping purposes.

A request to remove public User Content will be considered, but complete deletion from backups, previously produced materials, historical records, or copies already shared by third parties may not always be possible.

15. Email and Communications

If you subscribe to updates, request contact, join a campaign, volunteer, submit an inquiry, or otherwise ask us to communicate with you, we may use the contact details you provided to respond and send information related to that activity.

You may unsubscribe from optional promotional or update emails by using an unsubscribe method included in the message, when available, or by contacting us. We may still send non-promotional communications reasonably necessary for a transaction, donation, application, safety issue, legal notice, or active program relationship.

16. International Visitors

Big Prayer Museum is based in the United States. If you access the Platform from another country, information you provide may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. Privacy and data-protection laws in those locations may differ from the laws where you live.

Where applicable law provides additional privacy rights or requires a different legal basis, notice, consent, or transfer safeguard, we will seek to honor those requirements to the extent they apply to our activities.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Platform, programs, technology, and legal requirements evolve. We will post the revised Policy and update the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use previously collected personal information, we may provide additional notice or obtain consent where required.
